TASS Wertpapierhandelsbank GmbH (generally known as TASS) works with variable rate notes, also known as Floating Rate Notes or Floaters, and, with the largest market share, is the central institution in the German market.
TASS maintains more than 2,500 pages with information on more than 5,100 Floaters on the financial information systems Bloomberg and Reuters. No placements of their own are included (name-give-up brokering), which guarantees neutrality and the fairest execution of orders for the banks. TASS brokers the direct conclusion of deals between the banks in that is determines the market price.
The prices determined by TASS have the status of official prices in the Floater market because they are proven to be close to the market and because TASS does not have its own placements. These prices are used by numerous investments banks to value their own portfolios. The company has the largest databank for Floaters, with access to a transaction and spread history that is growing since 1993 as well as the relevant credit curves.

Recently, the company has begun making the TASS Floater Index available. This is a static aid that allows the development of the market to be summarised in a single number. This allows participants in the market to use benchmarks to make comparisons of individual bonds or portfolios with ease.
History
TASS Wertpapiermakler GmbH was founded in 1993 by Hansjörg Polz, former DM Eurobond Trader at Deutsche Bank AG. It achieved the largest market share for domestic securities issued by Germans within just a few years. Customers include both international investment banks and mid-sized banks with small trading teams to whom TASS outsources its trading activities.
In 1997 Carsten Ringler, who was previously responsible for position keeping and market making for euro and domestic issues at Deutsche Bank (see pfandbrief) . The company name TASS stands for Trading And Sales Support. The domicile of the company is Hofheim am Taunus. Since July 2007, TASS Wertpapiermakler GmbH has been doing business as TASS Wertpapierhandelsbank GmbH.
